The Friday Night Knitting Club

There's this book called the Friday Night Knitting Club, written by Kate Jacobs (Svensk titel: Livets aviga och räta). At first you might think of this book as a boring book about knitting. However, it's about so much more than knitting. As many other books, it's a novel about life as well. For me, the fact that this novel also includes knitting, only makes it even better. Moreover, I absolutely love the fact that they'll make a film based on the novel, and that Julia Roberts will play the main character.
At last, running a blog means being able to share stories, events, thoughts etc. with others. Therefore, I would like to share some of her words with You here, like a series. And remember, it's not all about knitting, even if it might seem that way at first.

The Gathering

"Choosing your wool is dizzying with potential: the waves of colors and textures tempt with visions of a sweater or cap (and all the accompanying compliments you hope to receive) but don't reveal the hard work required to get there. Patience and attention to detail make all the difference. Also willingness. Challenge keeps it interesting, but don't select a pattern that is to far beyond you.
Always select the best yarn you can afford. And use only the type of needle that feels best in your hand; I always use bamboo.
Even now, it still seems unbelievable to me that by pulling together a motely collection - the soft yarn, the sharp needles, the scripted pattern, the smoothing hook, the intangibles of creativity, humanity, and imagination - you can create something that will hold a piece of your soul. But you can."
